The international Opera Singer, tenor Michael Renier has an extensive repertoire of over 80 opera and operetta roles and has sung at more than 40 Opera Houses world wide, from South Africa to Japan, Switzerland,Germany, Czech Republic, Holland, Italy and Sweden. His repertoire includes 80 of the famous tenor roles from Puccini’s La Boheme to Verdi’s Otello.
Michael Renier was born in South Africa. After school he went to university to study Optometry and then Medicine, but before completion off his studies, his hobby to sing became the bigger driving force. He left for London and completed his Dipl. Opera at the London Opera Centre. For the past 40 years Michael has been adding to his repertoire, and as his voice changed he moved to the more dramatic tenor roles. Michael also added concerts to his repertoire as a break from opera and he has regularly sung concerts all over the world. From performing in the foyer of opera houses to large halls or intimate private concerts, he enjoys singing the famous Evergreens sung by all the tenors of the past; songs that made Caruso, Gigli, McCormack, and Mario Lanza famous. He also adds operatic arias to his repertoire and explains to the audience some insider information behind the scenes happenings in the world of opera and performing singers.
Michael retired from the opera stage when he sang his last opera performance in 2012 after more than 43 years. Michael now finds time to give Master Classes and singing lessons to aspiring singers all over the world. He says “I have retired from the Opera Stage, but by no means have I retired from Singing !”
Michael released a series of CDs on the NEXT music label including “I’ll Sing My Songs of Love” and “This is Why I Sing” which were released in 2015. Recently his first complete Afrikaans CD, “Ons eie Liefdeslied”, was released in December 2017.
Michael published his biography “Singing and Dreaming through Life” (2016) and recently “Singing and Living your Dream” (2018). A handbook for aspiring young students or those interested in the operatic or classically trained voice.
