"Musica Mundo" means music for the world. It is also the name of a unique group of people making choral music of the world. Musica Mundo is a private, adult choir based in Johannesburg that has been in existence for more than 15 years. In this time the choir has achieved many highlights. Musica Mundo, with Ansa Du Toit as conductor, commenced weekly rehearsals on 2 March 1994. Siegfried Pretsch assumed responsibility of the musical directorship in April 1999 up to December 2005. Deon Pienaar was the musical director from 2006 to 2008 and Waldo Van der Merwe is the newly appointed musical director as from 2009. During the past twelve years the choir has, in addition to numerous solo concerts, performed with a number of well-known South African musical artists including Amanda Strydom, Cutt Glass and Emile Minnie. Tours to Oudtshoorn, Durban, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Swaziland and Scandinavia have also been undertaken. Musica Mundo also strives to enrich the choral culture by performing with various other choirs in and around Gauteng. Musica Mundo is about the achievement and enjoyment of making and sharing our very special music and talents with others. The choir focuses on classical and choral pieces with a lighter repertoire for the less serious occasions. A wide range of classical works with symphony orchestras have been performed, including the Mozart Great Mass in C minor, the Dvorak Mass and the Karl Jenkins's "Armed Man – a Mass for Peace".
