Michelle Veenemans’ debut CD seeks to introduce her wonderful lyric-dramatic coloratura voice to the public, and is not only long overdue, but a response to considerable public demand. The majority of items selected are drawn from operetta, providing a superb platform for Michelle to showcase her vocal range and strong emphasis on technique. Each aria reveals a unique spectrum of emotions, which are unveiled by Michelle’s intuitive understanding of the genre. Michelle’s versatility and spontaneity are demonstrated with the addition of two Italian arias, one from Puccini’s only operetta, La canzone di Doretta, and the other an exquisite aria, Il Bacio, by Luigi Arditi.

Lentelied
The CD Lentelied displays Michelle Veenemans’ extraordinary lyric-dramatic coloratura voice. Not only does she sing an exciting sustained high F in the title song Lentelied, she also hits a sensational sustained high G in the Strauss aria Markies my heer (Mein Herr Marquis from Die Fledermaus). In 2005, we celebrated the 130th anniversary of the Afrikaans language and to commemorate this milestone, it was decided to compile a CD, which celebrates songs composed in the Afrikaans language. The majority of items selected are drawn from two renowned composers of the Afrikaans art song, S. le Roux Marais and P.J. Lemmer. Michelle’s versatility and spontaneity are demonstrated with the addition of a popular traditional Afrikaans folksong and three Strauss arias translated from German to Afrikaans by Fred Steyn. Each song and aria reveals a unique spectrum of emotions, which are unveiled by Michelle’s intuitive understanding of the various genres.

A selection of concert and opera arias
Dubbed the “Queen of the High Note”, Michelle Veenemans portrays with the collection of these arias her extraordinary vocal range. She not only sings the high tessitura with technical ease, she lends a dramatic excitement to the importunate demands of the highest register. She sings all the arias with pure virtuosity, each with its own periodic style, which demands great stamina and energy of the soprano voice.
During the past few years, Michelle has established herself as one of South Africa’s most successful concert artists performing an extensive repertoire ranging from Opera, Operetta, Lieder, Oratorio, and Musicals. In 2006, she sang the role of Die Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte by Mozart for Pro Musica Productions (Roodepoort, South Africa) as well as for Classic Music Productions at the National Theatre of Namibia (Windhoek, Namibia).
Ms. Veenemans is accompanied by Paul Ferreira who has established himself as a formidable concert accompanist for the voice as well as instrument. His accompaniment of the selected arias on this CD, composed originally for orchestra, has been expertly interpreted, applied, and accomplished with musical sensitivity.
Paul extensively performs for various music organisations and singers in South Africa. During the past few years, he has accompanied Michelle on numerous concerts and corporate functions, performing a wide selection of repertoire. He also features on Michelle’s second CD, Lentelied, as piano accompanist.

A queen with attitude
Michelle Veenemans, versatile opera soprano and concert entertainer sings a rock version of Mozart's coloratura aria, Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen, from the opera Die Zauberflöte. Her "Rock Queen" is not only full of fun, but it also displays her technical virtuosity.
