Ioanna Seira was born in Athens, 1991 into a family of musicians. She started the cello at the age of 6 with Christos Sfetsas.

At the age of 12 she won 1st Prize at the Pan-Hellenic Competition of Music organized by the Greek Ministry of Education. At the age of 14 she won 2nd Prize at the Eurovision Competition for Young Soloists in Athens. At the age of 15 she received her Diploma from the Attiko Conservatory in Athens with excellence, first prize and gold metal, class of Marina Kislitsina.

In June 2008, in the Cello Competition organized by Princess Irene of Greece, in memory of her friend M. Rostropovich, Ioanna received 1st Prize (Tzina Bachauer Prize) and a 2 year scholarship from the “Mundo in Armonia” Foundation. During 2008-2009 she studied in Cologne with Professor Claus Kanngiesser with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation. In April 2009 she was accepted in the Zuercher Hochschule der Kuenste (ZHdK) in the class of Raphael Wallfisch and from September 2009 she is studying there, also having chamber music lessons with Professors such as Rudolf Koelman, Christoph Schiller, Dominik Sackmann, Susanne Frank and M. Enderle (the last two mentioned are members of the famous Carmina Quartet) as well as Viola da Gamba lessons.

She participated in Master classes with Dimitris Patras, Philippe Muller, Gary Hoffman (in Kronberg Academy after audition) Claus Kanngiesser and Wenn Sing Yang.

As orchestra player she took part in Tournees with Chamber Orchestra ZHdK Strings (Konzertmeister and Conductor; Prof. Koelman) and with Animato S.O. as 2nd cello Principal (Conductor: Howard Griffiths).

As a soloist she has performed in concerts with the Academy Quartet, the Total Arte Quintet and the Amnesty International Orchestra in Greece. In October 2009 she performed the Lalo Concerto with the Athens State Orchestra (Conductor: Andreas Pylarinos). In February 2010 she performed the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Orchestra of the City of Athens (Conductor: Michalis Economou). In April 2010 she was invited by Princess Irene in Madrid to make a private concert in front of Her Majesty and the manager of Musiespana, Humberto Oran. In January 2011 she performed the Vivaldi double Concerto in Auditorio Manuel de Falla (Granada, Spain) with Orquestra Ciudad de Granada (Conductor: Andres Salado).
