Avigail Bushakevitz was born in Jerusalem in 1988. She currently studies the violin with Sylvia Rosenberg at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. She was under the superb guidance of Professor Jack de Wet in Stellenbosch and Cape Town from 2000 – 2007.
 
In 2001 she was a finalist and category winner at the Sanlam Music Competition for Primary School Pupils. She has appeared thirteen times as soloist in symphony concerts and concerto festivals with various orchestras in South Africa.

In 2002, 2004 and 2005 she was a finalist and winner of the strings category in the Absa National Youth Music Competition. At the age of 16, she was the overall winner and youngest participant of the Huguenot Music Competition
 
In 2005 Avigail was awarded the Remgro / Venfin study bursary of R50 000, presented to her at the KKNK 2005. She was a recipient of SAMRO's undergraduate bursary. She is also sponsored by the Ackerman foundation and Oppenheimer Memorial Trust.
 
At the SASOL South African National Youth Orchestra of 2006, she was awarded first prize at the Lubner Competition. In October 2006 Avigail won five prizes including 1st prize at the Unisa South African Music Scholarship Competition. Later that month she won the Pick 'n Pay/FMR music travel award, which enabled her to audition at, among other music institutions, The Juilliard School of Music.
 
She regularly performs in recital all over the country, often with her brothers, Benjamin and Ammiel. At 2006's KKNK her recital with Ammiel entitled "Vioolmosaïek" was awarded the Kanna for the best classical music production.
 
She participated in the Juilliard Chamberfest in 2008 and 2009, during which she performed Charles Ives’ Piano Trio and Schumann’s String Quartet in A major. June through August this year she attended the nine-week long Aspen Music Festival in Colorado.

In 2005, Avigail matriculated with distinction in George. In 2006 she commenced her BMus studies through Unisa. She auditioned at various prestigious music schools/universities in the USA in March 2007 and was accepted by the New England Conservatory, Indiana University, Boston University and Juilliard School of Music. Avigail is currently a third-year student at the Juilliard School of Music.
