Aubrey Mirvin Lodewyk was born in Rustenburg and started singing at a very young age in church. He obtained a Vocal Art Diploma at TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) in 2005. While at this institution he was given the opportunity of participating in student productions where he sang the roles of Dr. Malatestain Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, andTesoriere inVerdi’s Un Giorno di Regno. In 2005 he sang the title role in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. He also participated in production by Opera Africa and Salon Music. In 2006 he joined the Cape Town Opera Studio and enrolled for a Post Graduate Diploma in Music Performance at UCT. He understudied the role of Schaunard inPuccini’s La Bohème done by Cape Town Opera and sang the role of Gullielmoin Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte. In 2007 he sang the following minor roles; Silas in the South African opera The Orphans of Qumbu, Rambaldo in Puccini’s La Rondine andDe Bretignyin Massenet’s Manon.Healso understudied the role of Papageno in the William Kentridge production of Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. Oratorio performances include the Schubert Mass in C and G.F. Handel’s Messiah. Besides operas he also sings regularly in concerts, soirees, weddings and lieder recitals. He sang in the Cape Town Festival classical concerts in 2006 and 2007 and the Gauteng Choristers 8 years of Musical concert. Aubrey’s most recent performances include the role of Albert in the opera Werther in Cape Town and Jake in Porgy and Bess in the Deutsche Oper Berlin in July 2008.
