Annalie Herbst continued:

2005

She was soloist for Handel’s Messiah with the Stellenbosch University Orchestra. She also performed as soloist at the Franschoek Bastille Festival, at Villa Pascal Theatre and Music in the Gallery in Bellville Library with a program of opera, oratorio, musicals and chanson. Elizabeth Carstens accompanied.

She was invited to sing at a formal dinner at Die Grootte Kerk where she sang well known opera arias and songs from musicals.

She took part in a concert held by the University of Stellenbosch for the students of the conservatoire at the Hugo Lamprecht Auditorium where she sang music by the South African composer S. Le Roux Marais.

2006

More concerts followed at Villa Pascal Theatre (opera, musicals, folk etc.)

In April she shared a lieder evening with Minette du Toit for the Con Spirito Society at the George and Annie Starck House. The program included music from Faure, Schubert, Mozart, Beethoven and Le Roux Marais.

In August she took part in a concert held by the University of Stellenbosch in the Fismer Hall where she sang Vissi d’Arte (Puccini).

In September she did a program consisting of opera arias and duets with Violina Anguelov at the Drostdyhof in Tulbagh.

She did a fund raising concert for the N.G. Church on a guest farm in the Botrivier district with Erns Conradie. Another fundraising concert (for the restoration of the St Stephen’s church in Cape Town) followed in December with flutist Leonard Hoydenish and Erns Conradie (organ) at the St Stephen’s church.

2007

At the beginning of the year she did a program “Favourite opera arias and duets” with Minette du Toit at Villa Pascal and Wonderfontein Wine Estate (Robertson). In July followed a concert called “Con passion” with Stanislav Anguelov and Elizabeth Carstens at Belville Library and Mooikelder Guest Farm (Paarl). The program consisted of French chanson, Neapolitan songs, opera and musicals.

She was invited to sing for the Radio Sonder Grense programme Alle volke loof die Here with the presenter Fanie Smit, Tygerberg City Choir and soprano Antoinette Olivier at Welgemoed N.G. Church and Bloubergstrand N.G.Church.

She did another program for Con Spirito consisting of favourite opera duets and arias with the tenor Arthur Swan and Lisa Engelbrecht on piano in 2007. A standing ovation followed.

At the end of the year 2007 she recorded her first CD at Music @ Work’s studio. The title Late Harvest indicates the long road she had to walk to fulfil the dream of being a professional singer. It is a bouquet from her repertoire and shows off her ability to do classical style music as well as more contemporary music. Elna van der Merwe, Elizabeth Carstens, Stanislav Anguelov, Trium3 and backing tracks of the Prague Symphony Orchestra all contributed to the making of this recording. An interview with Annalie and Rodney Trudgeon (Fine Music Radio) was broadcasted.

2008

She gave two concerts at Villa Pascal and one at Meerendal Wine Estate with the trio Trium3 (Lizelle Duvenge – guitar, Rea Prinsloo – violin, Leonike Marais - flute) The program consisted of Irish and Scottish folk, French chanson and opera.

She was invited to sing at a concert in Welgemoed hosted by The Evangelical Reformed Church with Marion Robinson, Adri Louw, Louis Loock and Riaan Hunter.

Rika Vermeulen invited her to stand in for Pauline Du Plessis for the opera trio Da Capo with mezzo soprano Liz Frandsen, and coloratura soprano Hanlee Louw. They performed to great acclaim on the Allesverloren Wine Estate as part of the Olive Festival at Riebeeck Castle. The program consisted of music from the operas, musicals, Afrikaans music, jazz, pop. They were invited back for the 2009 festival.

Da Capo held a fundraising concert helping a colleague who suffered from cancer. Annalie also sang at another charity function on International aids awareness day in the city hall of Durbanville.

Later in the year another concert with Da Capo followed at the Aan de Braak Theatre (Stellenbosch) in collaboration with the art exhibition of Catherine de Blique.

She took part in a master class that was held at the University of Stellenbosch with soprano Michelle Breedt.

In October she performed in an all Mozart program with elocutionist Helena Conradie who read poetry which reflected on the life and music of Mozart. Elizabeth Carstens (piano) and Lizelle Duvenage (guitar) accompanied. The lovely ambience of the Meerendal chapel provided a romantic backdrop. All proceeds were donated to the “Learn to Earn” program of Fisantekraal in Durbanville.

In December she was part of the Christmas entertainment program that ran for two weeks at the Tygervalley shopping centre.

2009

In February 2009 she recorded a demo cd specifically intended for the wedding / anniversary / special occasions / corporate market.

In March she was invited to sing at the art exhibition of studio D’Art in Welgemoed choosing music to complement and explain the works on display.

She successfully co-wrote and performed in an opera cabaret on the life of Maori soprano Kiri Te Kanawa. It informed and entertained the audience, including music from a wide variety of music closely associated with Kiri.

She was invited to take part at the first classical music festival in August at Oudtshoorn at the C.J. Langenhoven centre. The title of the program was Late Harvest, a collection of beautiful music performed with passion. The program consisted of Opera, musicals, Neapolitan, chanson, Irish folk and pop.

Through out her career Annalie has given many charity concerts for old age homes. She generously helps with fundraising projects.

She regularly performs at weddings, birthdays and corporate functions like Myburgh / Paulsen Trust’s annual functions at Arabella Sheraton and Mount Nelson and at Lourensford.

She has been invited to sing at Christmas / Easter services at Die Grootte Kerk, Kuilsriver N.G. Church, Bergsig N.G. Church and others.
