Swiss cellist in magical cathedral recital

Celebrated international cellist Mattia Zappa will fill St. George's Cathedral in Cape Town with the stirring sounds of Bach and Piatti.

The performance at this magnificent landmark at 19:30 on Wednesday, 23 February will mark the Swiss-Italian musician's first solo recital in South Africa, which he has visited on three previous occasions with Italian pianist Massimiliano Mainolfi.

The cathedral recital features two of J.S. Bach's Six Suites for Violoncello i.e. Suite No. 1, G major (BWV 1007) and Suite No. 3, C major (BWV 1003) and also Three Caprices (nos. 1, 7 and 9) for Violoncello by Italian composer and musician Alfredo Piatti, who is regarded as the Paganini of the cello.
