Seize Those Rare Opportunities!
Enjoy sparkling operetta songs presented at the LemonJack Theatre in Pretoria – a rare opportunity!
On October 29 and 30, 2011 soprano Michelle Veenemans and tenor Coert Grobbelaar team up in a concert production entitled “Glinster-operette” treating the audience to musical gems composed by Franz Lehár, Johann Strauss Jr., Carl Millöcker and Carl Zeller; beautiful arias and duets from the romantic and comic world of operetta.
The duo is supported by Paul Ferreira on piano and Gerrit Koorsen on cello – brilliant accompanists, and star performers in their own right. Joining talents, the ensemble will transport the audience to the era of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Fritz Wunderlich and other greats.
Background to the arias and duets will be highlighted in Afrikaans by the renowned Barbara Veenemans, herself a keen and avid operetta soprano whose singing career spanned 45 years in all.
The concert performances take place in the modern and intimate Lemon Jack Theatre, 276 Poole Avenue, Raslouw in Centurion. Respective performances start Saturday at 20:00 and Sunday at 15:30. Concert tickets cost R120 per person and can be purchased through the theatre. In addition you may book for the pre-concert dinner or lunch on offer.
Footnote: Related to opera, operetta is lighter in terms of both music and theme. Operetta, together with the other genres like opera and the Broadway musical have impacted (and still do) on mankind’s quality of life by providing beauty, inspiration and thought-provoking and educational moments to enrich the viewer’s life experience. May the mentioned music genres continue to charm and sustain future generations. Source: New World Encyclopedia
