Kristel Birkholtz (Violin) and Michael Watt (Piano) present an enchanting recital programme, including works by Francoeur, Mozart, Bacewicz, Bizet, Brahms and Miyagi, comprising a colourful palette of well-loved violin works and a splash of fresh repertoire. The works featured will include, amongst others, a solo-unaccompanied “Francoeur”, which sets the tone for the recital; beginning with a stately rondeau and a thrilling gai. The audience can also look forward to “Thula Thu”, a traditional South African lullaby performed on a locally made tin can violin. Both Kristel and Michael are vibrant and adventurous young performers, currently completing their M.Mus degrees at Wits University, and each with extensive experience in live music performance. The duo met whilst studying music at Wits and has performed together on numerous occasions. They seamlessly blend their love of classical and contemporary music into a well-rounded and highly enjoyable programme. The duo has recently collaborated on a CD released under Cherry Pill Music, entitled “Burning Bridges”.
